Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Aaron Civale was brilliant Thursday, shutting down the San Francisco Giants in a 6-0 victory. Civale allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out seven in this one. Although the results in this one were good, Civale has been mediocre for most of the season, including his time with both Tampa and Milwaukee. He is certainly capable of a dominant start like this one, but he is hard to trust in fantasy given his 4.59 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Consider him a streaming option against easy matchups.
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Aaron Civale notched his first win since being traded to the Brewers in Friday's 8-3 victory over the Reds. It was a quality start as well after the 29-year-old lasted six-and-two-thirds innings, yielding two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. After a solid season last year for the Guardians, the 2024 campaign has been rough on the righty, both in Tampa and in Milwaukee. The former third-round draft pick owns a 5.02 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 14.3% K-BB%, and has allowed 24 home runs (1.75 HR/9) over 23 starts. While his next start will be at home, it won't be easy as he draws the Dodgers next Thursday.
Right-hander Aaron Civale will make his debut with the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to manager Pat Murphy. Civale will be followed by right-hander Freddy Peralta on Saturday and left-hander Dallas Keuchel on Sunday in the series in LA. Right-hander Bryse Wilson will pitch out of the bullpen for the time being after Milwaukee acquired Civale from the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this week. The 29-year-old Civale won't be a recommended fantasy streamer on the road against the Dodgers on Friday. He's currently 2-6 with a 5.07 ERA and 1.38 WHIP with 84 K's in 87 innings over his 17 starts in 2024. The underlying numbers show that Civale has a shot to be better in the second half, though, especially with a better offense backing him.
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Aaron Civale was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, July 3, in exchange for infielder Gregory Barrios. Civale has struggled in his first season in Tampa Bay with a poor 5.07 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. Barrios was ranked as the 21st-best prospect in the Milwaukee system on MLB Pipeline prior to the trade and now slots in at No. 19 in the Tampa Bay system. In 61 games at High-A this season, the 20-year-old has performed very well with a .325/.367/.429 slash line. Civale should be expected to slot into Milwaukee's starting rotation immediately. Rays 25-year-old Shane Baz now has an excellent opportunity to join the major-league roster due to the departure of Civale. In his past five starts at Triple-A, Baz has posted a stellar 1.57 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with an eye-catching 35 strikeouts in just 23 innings. He is a must-roster playing going forward, as he has immense strikeout upside.
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Aaron Civale tossed a no-decision in Tuesday's loss versus the Boston Red Sox. Civale went five innings and allowed five hits, three runs, zero walks and struck out six on the evening. Civale has been off to a very rocky start this season, but it was the first time since April 16 that he was able to get to through a minimum of five innings. The right-hander drew a lot of hype heading into this season, but he let managers down with a 2-3 record to go along with an ugly 5.83 ERA over his first nine starts. At this point, the 28-year-old is best served as a streamer. He will look to keep improving with his next matchup set to come against the division rival Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.
