New Orleans Saints versatile playmaker Taysom Hill's role could look "slightly different" this season, according to Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. However, the team still expects to take advantage of his versatility. "Hill could play up to five positions fullback, running back, quarterback, tight end, and wide receiver," the two insiders wrote. "That doesn't mean he will play all five, but the Saints have those options available." Hill was an intriguing threat on offense once again last year, catching 33 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns, rushing for 401 yards and four touchdowns, and passing for 83 yards and a touchdown. His production often fluctuated on a week-to-week basis, but managers benefitted from his big-play ability. He remains an appealing fantasy option given his positional eligibility at tight end.
New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Mason Tipton (hamstring) left Wednesday's practice early with a hamstring injury. The severity of the injury is unknown, but this certainly puts his chances of playing in the Saints preseason opener in jeopardy. Tipton has been a standout at camp thus far and is making his case for a roster spot. The Yale product is smaller in stature (5-foot-9) and never eclipsed 1,000 yards in a season during his tenure as a Bulldog. However, he did run a 4.33 40-yard dash, and New Orleans does not boast impressive depth at wide receiver. In fact, behind Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed (hamstring), this WR room is ripe for the taking. Tipton is nothing more than a late-round dart throw (NFFC ADP 331) or deep-league stash, but someone to monitor, considering the hype.
New Orleans Saints wide receiver A.T. Perry struggled early in training camp, but according to team reporter Jeff Nowak, he's been "coming on strong lately" ahead of the team's first preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday. The sixth-round pick in last year's draft had a decent start to his career, considering his draft position, catching 12 passes for 246 yards and four touchdowns. The Wake Forest product has a chance to play significant snaps in 2024 following the departure of long-time Saint Michael Thomas. Perry has a strong college production profile and above-average athleticism, so he could have some fantasy value in quarterback Derek Carr's offense. For now, he's likely the WR3 behind Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. It would be a surprise if he's a consistent producer, but his long frame could make him a top target in the red zone. His best value is as a late-round flier in best-ball formats.
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed (hamstring) missed another training camp practice on Wednesday. It's the fourth straight day that Shaheed has been sidelined at camp after he experienced tightness in his hamstring over the weekend. It doesn't sound like Shaheed's injury is a long-term issue, so barring a setback, he should be healthy in time for the Week 1 regular-season opener against the Carolina Panthers. After catching 46 of his 75 targets for 719 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games (eight starts) in 2023 in his second NFL season, the 25-year-old pass-catcher figures to have an even bigger role in the Saints' offense in 2024. He should be the club's No. 2 wideout behind Chris Olave, but he's going to need more target volume if he's going to be anything more than a boom/bust deep threat for quarterback Derek Carr.
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed (hamstring) sat out his second straight practice on Sunday. The assumption was that Shaheed would return on Sunday after sitting out on Saturday for a rest day. Possibly, Shaheed is dealing with more serious of an issue then first reported. Once healthy, Shaheed is expected to fill the No. 2 wide receiver role behind Chris Olave on this offense. That should lead to increased targets and usage for Shaheed for this upcoming season. Fantasy managers will have to check back on his status in a few days.
