The Detroit Lions agreed to a four-year contract extension with wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown on Wednesday that is worth $120 million with $77 million guaranteed. The deal makes St. Brown the highest-paid receiver in the league and ties him with Miami's Tyreek Hill in average annual value ($30 million). The 24-year-old former fourth-round pick in 2021 out of USC has been an excellent value for Detroit. He's made the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons and put up career-highs in catches (119), targets (164), receiving yards (1,515) and touchdowns (10) in 16 regular-season games in his third year in the NFL in 2024. With Quarterback Jared Goff still peppering St. Brown with targets in 2024, he'll continue to serve as a high-end WR1 for fantasy managers.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, speaking on Sunday morning's episode of SportsCenter, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is expected to receive a contract extension worth $45-50 million per year. The veteran signal-caller has been open about his fondness for Detroit. It appears the franchise is also pleased with his performance, considering the Lions made it to the NFC Championship and narrowly beat the 49ers to earn a trip to the Super Bowl. Without a doubt, Goff has been instrumental in turning things around for the Lions. He finished the 2023-24 campaign by amassing 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, some of the best numbers of his career. From a fantasy standpoint, Goff's stock has never been higher, especially since he has plenty of weapons in his arsenal, including Amon-Ra St. Brown, who finished the year as one of the league's most potent wideouts. Nonetheless, both sides still have some things to work out, although a new deal could come soon.
The Detroit Lions decided to match the three-year, $12 million offer that the San Francisco 49ers gave restricted free-agent tight end Brock Wright, according to a source. The Niners tried to pry Wright away from the Lions, but Detroit wasn't having it and will retain the 25-year-old as a backup to up-and-coming pass-catching tight end Sam LaPorta. If Wright had gone to the Bay Area, he would have served as a backup to George Kittle. The 25-year-old is mostly used as a blocker in the running game and isn't on the fantasy radar at all. The former undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame has only 43 receptions for 424 yards and seven touchdowns in three NFL seasons and had 13 catches (14 targets) for 91 yards and one touchdown in 14 regular-season games (four starts) in 2023.
Detroit Lions restricted free-agent tight end Brock Wright has signed an offer sheet from the San Francisco 49ers, according to sources. The Lions now have five days to match San Fran's offer for Wright after extending the 25-year-old a one-year, $2.98 million contract tender before the start of free agency. If Detroit chooses not to match the Niners' offer, Wright will head to the Bay Area in 2024 and serve as tight end depth behind George Kittle. Wright should be recovered in time for training camp this summer after breaking his left forearm in the playoff win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his third NFL season in 2023 with the Lions, Wright had only 13 receptions for 91 yards and one touchdown on 14 targets in 14 regular-season games (four starts).
The Detroit Lions and star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown have been discussing a contract extension that would likely make him one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the league. St. Brown's agent and Detroit brass met last month at the NFL scouting combine to begin negotiations as it appears that both sides are motivated to get something worked out. St. Brown is heading into the final year of his rookie deal and will play at an absolute bargain price of $3.366 million in 2024. The team is making it a priority to get St. Brown and quarterback Jared Goff extended this offseason after they came just one win short of making it to the Super Bowl.
