Bears To Host Caleb Williams For A Visit In First Week Of April

The Chicago Bears will host USC quarterback Caleb Williams for a visit at Halas Hall in the first week of April, at which point the Bears will get their medical evaluation of Williams. The Bears traded Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason, signaling that they will almost certainly hold onto the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NFL draft to select Williams as their future franchise signal-caller. Williams didn't work out at the scouting combine in Indianapolis and didn't disclose any medical information, either, so the Bears will get a closer look at their future QB soon. Not only does the 22-year-old have the most long-term upside of any passer in this year's class, but the Bears have upgraded their offense this offseason so that hopefully Williams can come in and hit the ground running from Day 1.

Jets, Texans Had Interest In Keenan Allen

Before the Los Angeles Chargers traded wide receiver Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears on Thursday evening in exchange for a fourth-round pick, the New York Jets and Houston Texans were interested in trading for him. After restructuring his contract last offseason, Allen declined to take a pay cut in 2024 and was traded to the Bears. Even though he missed the final four games in 2023 with a heel injury, Allen set the Chargers' single-season record for catches with 108 and also led the team with 1,243 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. The six-time Pro Bowler is coming off his fifth season with 100 catches, which is tied for third-most in NFL history. The 31-year-old has one year left on his four-year, $80.1 million extension he signed in 2020. He said he and the Bears are approaching the prospect of a new deal "one day at a time," and his hope is to remain with Chicago on a long-term basis.

Keenan Allen Traded To The Bears

The Los Angeles Chargers traded wide receiver Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a fourth-round pick on Thursday. Allen played 11 seasons with the Chargers and logged six 1,000-yard campaigns during his career with the team. With a new coaching regime and salary cap issues, the Chargers decided to move on from its veteran star receiver. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Chargers approached Allen about a pay cut, which he declined. Los Angeles, in return, shipped him to Chicago. The 31-year-old will form a dynamic duo with DJ Moore and give the Bears another offensive weapon for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who the Bears are expected to select with the first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, it's still uncertain who the Bears quarterback will be in Week 1 as incumbent Justin Fields remains on the roster. Allen caught 108 passes for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns over 13 games for the Chargers in 2023. The veteran wideout will compete with Moore for targets and become a borderline WR2 in fantasy in a new-look Bears offense.

Bears Agree With Gerald Everett On Tuesday

The Chicago Bears have agreed to undisclosed terms with veteran free-agent tight end Gerald Everett on Tuesday, according to a source. Everett is heading into his age-30 season in 2024 and is coming off a year in which he caught a modest 51 passes on 70 targets for 411 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his second season with the Los Angeles Chargers in 15 games (12 starts). With the move to Chicago, where he's expected to play second fiddle to Cole Kmet, Everett can no longer be considered in the TE1 grouping in fantasy. In his seven-year career, Everett has never had more than 58 receptions, 478 yards or four touchdowns in a single season. There's basically no upside here for fantasy managers, especially with Chicago expected to be using a rookie quarterback in 2024. UPDATE: Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Everett will receive a two-year, $12 million base value deal from the Bears with a maximum value up to $14 million that includes $6.1 million fully guaranteed.

D'Andre Swift Heading To The Bears

The Chicago Bears agreed to terms with free-agent running back D'Andre Swift on a three-year, $24 million deal on Monday, according to sources. After having a career year with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024, Swift now heads to Chicago to be a big piece of new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron's offense. The 25-year-old made his first Pro Bowl in 2023 by rushing for 1,049 yards and five touchdowns on a career-high 229 rushing attempts in 16 regular-season games. He also caught 39 passes for 214 yards and another score through the air. Swift will likely be working with USC quarterback Caleb Williams, whom the Bears are expected to take first overall in the draft, and Swift should be Chicago's new featured back. However, the move to Chicago hurts his overall fantasy upside, as he'll likely lose more backfield touches to Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson.
