Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson has faced challenges in a crowded backfield, seeing 10 or more touches in a game only five times this season. Recently, his role has expanded with D'Onta Foreman missing the last two games. Johnson, primarily a receiving back this year, has demonstrated consistency with at least three catches in each of the last three games and four of the last six. With Khalil Herbert nursing a back injury and limited in practice, Johnson could assume the lead role if both Herbert and Foreman are sidelined in Week 18. Facing the Green Bay Packers, who concede the 12th-most points per game to running backs and rank 26th in DVOA against the run, Johnson emerges as a solid RB2 option in the absence of his counterparts and a viable low-end RB3 if they are available.
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen (heel) missed yet another practice on Thursday and looks likely to miss his fourth straight game to close out the season. The Chargers basically shut their top offensive weapon down right after quarterback Justin Herbert (finger) was lost for the year and the team was eliminated from the postseason. It's a disappointing end to what was a fantastic season for the 31-year-old pass catcher. Allen managed to post a career-high 108 receptions on 150 targets for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns in only 13 games played as a top-five fantasy receiver. With Allen likely to sit out in the Week 18 regular season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs, rookie first-rounder Quentin Johnston and Jalen Guyton should have bigger roles, although Joshua Palmer (concussion) could be making his return.
Los Angeles Chargers tight end Gerald Everett could have a strong end to his season in a Week 18 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Everett has taken on a larger role in the second half of the season with injuries striking several LA pass catchers. With Keenan Allen (heel) likely out and Joshua Palmer (concussion) questionable at best, Everett should have another big role on Sunday afternoon. He has a solid floor and some touchdown upside, making him a solid TE1 for the final week of the season.
Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert (back) popped up on the Week 18 injury report on Thursday and was listed as a limited practice participant. Midweek injuries are usually never a good sign, especially with a team heading into a meaningless Week 18 regular season finale against the Green Bay Packers. The Packers are still fighting for a playoff spot, but the Bears aren't in postseason consideration and could decide to rest Herbert if he's at all questionable to play. If the 25-year-old can't play this weekend, it would throw Chicago's ground game into a state of flux with rookie Roschon Johnson and D'Onta Foreman. After totaling 16 total rushing yards in Weeks 14 and 15, Herbert went off for 236 yards and two touchdowns on 38 carries the last two weeks. His injury now casts doubt on him as an RB2 for fantasy managers against the Packers.
Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet (knee) practiced in a limited fashion on Thursday after logging a DNP on Wednesday. Kmet has been dealing with injuries that have limited him in practice and games in the last two weeks. Ahead of Week 16, a quad issue limited his participation in practice, though he did finish with a season-high 107 receiving yards against the Arizona Cardinals. In Week 17, his knee injury kept him out of practice until Friday and he was limited to just 13 snaps against the Atlanta Falcons. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring news for updates on his status.
