Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga (illness) is considered questionable for Monday's game against Brooklyn. He might be absent for a second consecutive contest due to an illness. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has used a very deep rotation this season, resulting in a collective effort to cover for Kuminga on Saturday against San Antonio. After starting the first three games of the campaign, Kuminga has been exclusively coming off the bench, but he's still been impactful when healthy. Across 22.7 minutes per game, Kuminga has posted 13.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.0 steals.
Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga is fresh off of his best season yet and is entering a big contract year with his rookie deal set to expire at the end of the upcoming season. The two sides were not able to agree on a rookie contract extension, so he will be a restricted free agent during the 2025 offseason. Last year, Kuminga averaged 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.6 turnovers per game with shooting splits of .529/.321/.746. He's set to receive even more minutes heading into this season, so he'll be playing for even more money now.
Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga said on Monday that he was hopeful an extension with the Warriors could get completed prior to the October 21st deadline. He went on to state, "I'm not really concerned about it. If I get it, if I don't, it's cool." Kuminga excelled in his 46 games as a starter last season, posting up 17.2 PPG and 5.2 RPG in starts. With Klay Thompson headed off to Dallas, Kuminga's role will be less threatened and his production levels should increase. The 21-year-old won't be the recipient of the additional threes Thompson provided Golden State, but he'll continue to be a solid rebounder and a great contributor at the rim. With a big season on board, Warriors fans and fantasy managers alike will be eager to see what he does in an elevated role throughout a full season. Those looking to draft Kuminga should be able to find him around the #100 pick in their upcoming draft.
According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, "significant progress" in contract talks between the Golden State Warriors and forward Jonathan Kuminga has not been made. The 2021 No. 7 overall pick is entering the final season of his rookie contract. While the Warriors dismissed trade inquiries this offseason from other teams, it doesn't appear both sides are close to securing an extension. Kuminga finished last season by averaging a career-high 16.1 points and 4.8 rebounds. However, with Klay Thompson now in Dallas, the expectations are higher for the 21-year-old. His shooting percentage from deep needs to improve. But Kuminga will be a consistent member of the Warriors' rotation in 2024-25, giving him value in all fantasy setups. Both sides have until October 21 to agree on a new deal. If it isn't finalized by then, Kuminga will be a restricted free agent next summer.
According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, speaking on 95.7 The Game, the Warriors aren't expected to trade forward Jonathan Kuminga this summer. The Warriors undoubtedly need to tweak the roster to compete in a stacked Western Conference. But Kuminga, who was once rumored to be on the move, is anticipated to remain included in the team's plans moving ahead. The 21-year-old had a rough start to the 2023-24 campaign. However, he averaged 18.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 41 games to end the year. With that said, Kuminga appears ready to take a leap in his development, and he'll likely see more than enough interest from fantasy managers heading toward the new season.
