New York Yankees right-hander Marcus Stroman has been included on their roster for the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Guardians, which begins on Monday at Yankee Stadium for Game 1. Stroman rejoins the team's playoff roster after being left off the roster for the AL Division Series against the Kansas City Royals. The 33-year-old veteran will presumably serve in a long-relief role against Cleveland, with right-hander Luis Gil rejoining the starting rotation. In his first year in the Bronx in 2024, Stroman went 10-9 with a 4.31 ERA (4.62 FIP) and 1.47 WHIP with 113 strikeouts and 60 walks in 154 2/3 innings over 30 appearances (29 starts). In his last four outings (three starts) in the regular season, he struggled by allowing 15 earned runs with 11 K's and three walks in 15 1/3 innings. Stroman didn't face Cleveland during the regular season.
New York Yankees starting pitcher Marcus Stroman was left off the ALDS roster, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Instead, the Yankees opted to add pinch-runner Duke Ellis to their roster in favor of the starting pitcher. As a result, the Yankees will enter their series against the Kansas City Royals, with their rotation consisting of Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Luis Gil, and Clarke Schmidt. The 33-year-old should have a good chance of returning to the mound if the Yankees reach the ALCS. The right-hander enjoyed a modest debut season in the Bronx as he held a 4.31 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP across 154 2/3 innings. DFS players should consider adding Gerrit Cole to their lineup this afternoon as he will take the mound in Game 1 for the Yankees as he is coming off an impressive six 2/3 shoutout performance in his final start of the regular season.
With New York Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes (elbow) headed to the 15-day injured list, right-hander Marcus Stroman will make the start at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees moved Stroman to the bullpen earlier this month, and his first appearance out of the bullpen came on Sept. 17 against the Seattle Mariners, when he picked up a three-inning save by giving up a run, walking none and striking out three. The 33-year-old veteran threw 64 pitches in his last outing and will probably be on a bit of a pitch count on Wednesday in a tough matchup against the O's. With Cortes likely to miss the first round of the postseason, it's possible that Stroman sticks in a starting role moving forward. Wednesday's start will be the first time that Stroman has faced Baltimore in 2024.
New York Yankees right-hander Marcus Stroman will move to the bullpen for this turn through the starting rotation, with left-hander Nestor Cortes taking his next start. Manager Aaron Boone said that the Yankees could go to a five-man rotation the next time through as well. Stroman would be available in relief on Sunday at Yankee Stadium against the division-rival Boston Red Sox. This is the Yankees' way of giving some of their starters some rest at the tail end of the regular season so that they can be fully ready to go for a deep playoff run. It's obviously bad news for any fantasy managers relying on the 33-year-old Stroman with a championship on the line. He has mostly struggled in the second half, going 3-4 with a 5.40 ERA (3.54 FIP) with 31 strikeouts and 13 walks in nine starts over 43 1/3 innings. At best, Stroman might only make one more start in September.
New York Yankees starting pitcher Marcus Stroman's next scheduled start has been pushed back from Thursday's game against the visiting Los Angeles Angels to Sunday against the defending-champion Texas Rangers. Stroman has really struggled for the Yankees as of late, allowing 24 earned runs in 31 2/3 innings over his past seven starts, which caused manager Aaron Boone to give him a few extra days of rest. Left-hander Nestor Cortes Jr. will make the start on Thursday versus the Angels, offering him plenty of streaming appeal in fantasy. Boone confirmed on Wednesday that Stroman is not injured and is simply trying to fix some mechanical issues, and he is not concerned about Stroman's drop in velocity during those seven starts. At this point, fantasy managers in shallow leagues should consider leaving the 33-year-old veteran right-hander on benches until he shows some semblance of his early-season form.
