Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) is out of the starting lineup for the second straight day on Wednesday against the New York Mets. Hayes was scratched from Tuesday's contest due to some lower-back tightness and will now sit a second game this week. The 27-year-old missed some time with a back injury last year as well, so the Pirates are probably being extra cautious so that he can avoid another trip to the injured list. For now, fantasy managers should consider him as day-to-day. With an off day on Thursday, perhaps Hayes will be able to return to action for the start of a series on Friday against the visiting Boston Red Sox. Jared Triolo is starting at third and batting eighth on Wednesday against Mets right-hander Luis Severino.
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes (undisclosed) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the New York Mets. The organization has not given a reason as to why Hayes was pulled ahead of the game. Jared Triolo will be taking over third base and bat third for Tuesday's game. Fantasy managers should get an update on Hayes status shortly.
Pittsburgh Pirates catcher/outfielderHenry Davisand third basemanKe'Bryan Hayes are out of the lineup Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles. For Davis, this is a typical day off for the catcher to regroup, as he has gone 0-for-12 with six strikeouts in the last three games. Joey Bart replaces Davis behind the plate and is batting eighth in Saturday's game. Hayes will get his first breather of the year, as he has started every game for the Pirates thus far while swinging a hot bat, going 11-for-34 in his first eight games. Jared Triolo will handle third base duties while Hayes is rested. Expect Davis and Hayes to be in Pittsburgh's lineup on Sunday in the series finale against the Orioles.
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes went 2-for-3 in Friday's 7-2 win over the Miami Marlins, continuing his hot start to the year with two RBI and two runs scored. Hayes lined a double to left to score Bryan Reynolds in the third inning, later hitting a sacrifice fly to bring Connor Joe around for an insurance run during the eighth frame. After going 2-for-4 in Thursday's victory, the former top prospect and first-round pick keeps giving fantasy managers plenty to get excited about in the early goings. Hayes closed spring training with a scalding .412/.434/.647 triple-slash line, three home runs, three doubles, and nine RBI through Grapefruit League 51 at-bats. If he can finally find some consistency with the bat, the 2023 Gold Glover could crush his 201 NFBC ADP. Hayes gets Marlins lefty Ryan Weathers on Saturday, and he'll have a good chance to stay hot after hitting .294 with an .847 OPS in 160 at-bats against left-handed pitching last year.
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes continued his hot hitting in Monday's 11-2 Grapefruit League rout of the Phillies. The 27-year-old went 3-for-4 with a run scored, making it three straight multi-hit performances for the youngster and the sixth of the spring. He's now 16-for-38 (.421) with two doubles, three home runs, nine RBI, and eight runs scored in 13 spring games. Perhaps even more impressive is that he's struck out just once in those 38 at-bats. Hayes is an all-around, albeit somewhat unexciting, contributor for fantasy as he'll approach 20 home runs and provide double-digit steals. Right now he's ranked as the thirteenth option at third base at RotoBaller, but it wouldn't be unrealistic to see him in the top-12 by season's end.
