Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Frankie Montas was excellent on Thursday, tossing six shutout frames against the San Francisco Giants in a 3-0 win. Montas allowed just two hits and two walks while punching out eight Giants. The veteran might be hitting his stride at the right time, as he now has back-to-back quality starts with a combined 18 strikeouts in 12 IP. He has only allowed four hits and five walks in those starts. He is currently in line for two starts next week, but they are against the Phillies and D-Backs, two very tough matchups. He is only a desperation streamer.
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Frankie Montas (6-8) pitched a gem on Tuesday as his team beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2. Across seven innings, Montas gave up one hit, walked one, and struck out three. The nine-year MLB vet has had an up-and-down season (4.57 ERA in 23 starts) but has been much better since being traded to the Brewers in late July. In four starts (21 IP) with his new team, he is (2-0) with a 2.57 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Montas will get another chance to keep his run going against Oakland on Saturday.
The Milwaukee Brewers are acquiring starting pitcher Frankie Montas from the Cincinnati Reds. The first-place Brewers bolster their rotation with one of the best starters left on the trade market in a deal between two National League Central rivals that sees the Reds secure outfielder Joey Wiemer and right-hander Jakob Junis. Montas started hot in the spring but has gone 4-8 with a 5.01 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 78:41 K:BB in 19 starts overall for the Reds after a shoulder injury held him to a lone appearance with the New York Yankees in 2023 during a contract year. The 31-year-old veteran right-hander should watch his fantasy value slightly go up with the move away from the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park when he pitches home games, and he'll worthy of streaming consideration in the proper matchups in Milwaukee.
The Cincinnati Reds have activated starting pitcher Frankie Montas (forearm) from the 15-day injured list. Montas has been on the injured list since April 22 due to a forearm injury. After throwing a couple of bullpen sessions, Montas was activated and will be starting for Cincinnati on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Montas has started five games this season and is 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA with 14 strikeouts. One possible concern for fantasy managers is the fact that Montas did not have a minor-league rehab outing or get into game action, as he just did bullpen sessions. He's also facing a Diamondbacks offense that is slashing .249/.325/.389, which ranks eighth, seventh, and 14th, respectively, in the majors.
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Frankie Montas (forearm) is listed as the team's starter for Tuesday's contest against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. It appears Montas will be activated from the injured list to make his return to Cincy's starting rotation on Tuesday. He's been on the IL since April 22 with a right-forearm issue and threw a couple of bullpen sessions last week. The fact that he didn't make any minor-league rehab starts before being thrown back into the fire should make fantasy managers hesitant to throw him back into their starting lineups immediately, especially against an Arizona offense that currently ranks 12th in baseball with a .714 OPS. The 31-year-old is attempting to bounce back from injuries the last two years and has so far gone 2-2 with the Reds with a 4.19 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 14 K's in 19 1/3 innings over five starts.
