Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Rob Zastryzny will serve as the opener for Sunday's series finale against the visiting Washington Nationals, with right-hander Colin Rea set to serve as the bulk reliever. It will be Zastryzny's second opening assignment for the Brew Crew this year. In his first "start" for Milwaukee on July 1 against the Colorado Rockies, the 32-year-old southpaw produced a scoreless inning. Because he'll only go an inning or two at the most, Zastryzny can be ignored in fantasy. Rea is being protected as a bulk reliever on Sunday after he gave up a season-high seven earned runs against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his last outing on Tuesday. The 34-year-old veteran went seven shutout innings on July 3 with four strikeouts, so he'll be hoping for a bounce-back outing heading into next week's All-Star break.
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Colin Rea will work behind an opener on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies on the road. It's unclear who the Brewers will use as the opener after going with Jared Koenig on Monday. Rea, 33, worked as the team's bulk reliever behind Koenig on May 25 against the Boston Red Sox and allowed two earned runs with three walks and two strikeouts in 5 2/3 frames in a win. In his last outing on May 30 against the Chicago Cubs, Rea had a no-decision while working 5 1/3 frames and allowing one earned run on one walk and five K's. Rea has had a solid campaign thus far for the Brew Crew, going 4-2 with a 3.77 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 42 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings over 11 outings (10 starts), but the matchup on Tuesday against the Phils on the road is one to fade him in.
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Colin Rea earned a no-decision in Thursday's outing versus the division rival Chicago Cubs. Rea pitched well for the most part and it was a solo home run by Cody Bellinger in the top of the first inning that would be the lone damage against the veteran. Rea's final line on the evening would be five hits, one run, one walk and five strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. Rea has made two good starts in a row, but his season has been inconsistent overall. Rea is best suited as a streamer in favorable matchups and will carry a 3.77 ERA into next weeks starts versus a tough Philadelphia Phillies offense.
Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Tuesday that starting pitcher Colin Rea will start the season in the team's rotation. The 33-year-old made 26 appearances (22 starts) for the Brewers in 2023, going 6-6 with a 4.55 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 21.3% strikeout rate. Rea has looked sharp in his eight innings of work this spring and the Brewers currently do not have much pitching depth. While he may not hold much fantasy value in roto leagues, he could be a deep points-league consideration in favorable matchups.
