The Chicago Cubs have activated outfielder Cody Bellinger (ribs) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned outfielder Alexander Canario to the minors in a corresponding move. The club also placed pitcher Daniel Palencia (shoulder) on the IL with shoulder stiffness and recalled pitcher Keegan Thompson from the minors. The Cubs haven't posted their starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting San Diego Padres yet, but if Bellinger is back in there, fantasy managers will want to get him right back in their lineups as well. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger is returning from a fracture in his right ribcage and will start regularly in center field now that he's back. Rookie Pete Crow-Armstrong and Mike Tauchman could now be battling for more playing time with Bellinger back.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger (ribs) will not need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment, and there's a chance he could be back in the Cubs' lineup before they go on the road go on the road on Friday to Pittsburgh to start a series, according to manager Craig Counsell. The 28-year-old is currently on the 10-day injured list due to a fracture in his right ribcage. He was able to do some hitting and defensive work on Monday and apparently made a positive impact on the coaching staff. Fantasy managers will be happy to get him back, as he's been out for almost two weeks. When he returns, rookie outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong will likely head to the bench or possibly back to the minors. Bellinger is a must-start in fantasy leagues when he's available. Before his injury, he was hitting .226 (19-for-84) with five homers and 17 RBI.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger (ribs) could be activated within the next week, according to manager Craig Counsell. The 28-year-old is doing some hitting and defensive drills on Saturday as he works his way back from a right rib fracture. Bellinger suffered his injury on April 23 when he crashed into the outfield fence trying to make a catch. It's been a solid start to the season for Bellinger who is hitting .226 with five home runs, an 11.3% BB%, and a .760 OPS across 97 plate appearances. Additionally, he has struck out in just 15.5% of his plate appearances to this point after posting a career-best 15.6% K% in a rebound campaign with the Cubs in 2023.
Chicago Cubs outfielders Seiya Suzuki (oblique) and Cody Bellinger (ribs) are hitting and taking part in defensive drills on Saturday. Suzuki is recovering from a right-oblique strain that he suffered on April 14, while Bellinger was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 24 with a fractured right rib. Suzuki also took on-field batting practice on Friday and is 80 percent recovered. The 29-year-old should be able to go on a minor-league rehab assignment soon, so he will likely return before Bellinger does. Pete Crow-Armstrong and Mike Tauchman are seeing more playing time in Chicago with both Suzuki and Bellinger injured, and both outfielders are swinging the bat well. When healthy, Suzuki and Bellinger will be everyday players for Chicago and should be stashed in all fantasy formats.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger (ribs) did some light throwing, running, and hitting at Fenway Park on Sunday. It was a positive step in Bellinger's progression from two fractured ribs on his right side, as he's being evaluated on a daily basis with the goal of ramping up his activity based on his recovery and tolerance. Although there is still no firm timetable for the 28-year-old All-Star slugger's activation from the 10-day injured list, there's optimism he'll be able to return to Chicago's outfield right around when he's first eligible to return. Top prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong is batting .313 (5-for-16) with one home run and four RBI in six games since being called up from the minor leagues, and he should patrol center field every day against right-handed pitching in the meantime for the Cubs. The former first-round pick is worth a look for fantasy managers in deep mixed or NL-only leagues in the interim.
