New York Yankees right-hander Clay Holmes earned his sixth save in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians. Holmes struck out two and gave up one hit in Saturday's victory. This was Holmes' first save since last Tuesday. Holmes remains unblemished in the 2024 season. The 31-year-old is (1-0) with a 1.14 WHIP but only has five strikeouts in seven innings. He continues to get the job done and has converted 6-of-7 save chances this season. Holmes should continue to get the same chances as the Yankee's primary closer.
New York Yankees closer Clay Holmes picked up his fifth save of the season in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Marlins. Holmes came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by one and delivered a 1-2-3 outing with a strikeout. The 31-year-old has converted all but one of his save opportunities and has yet to allow an earned run or a walk in six innings pitched. He uncharacteristically only has three strikeouts in that time, but fantasy managers will take the overall results from the closer on one of baseball's hottest teams.
New York Yankees closer Clay Holmes collected his league-leading third save of the season in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Houston Astros. Holmes allowed a pair of hits but managed to escape unscathed to solidify the Yankees sweep. The 31-year-old has been a bit shaky in his appearances so far this season, allowing five hits with no strikeouts, but he has gotten the job done. He should have a pretty long leash on the closer's job as he was solid last year in the role.
New York Yankees right-hander Clay Holmes tossed a scoreless inning to earn the save in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Houston Astros. He entered the game in the ninth inning to protect a two-run lead. The 31-year-old needed 11 pitches to make quick work of the Astros en route to his second save of the season. He is 2-for-2 in save chances while posting a 1.50 WHIP over two scoreless innings in 2024. Holmes is the Yankee's primary closer after notching 20-plus save seasons in the previous two years. Fantasy managers should continue to start Holmes in all league formats, as the Yankees right-hander will rack up 20 or more saves for a third straight year.
New York Yankees closer Clay Holmes hung on for an Opening Day save in Thursday's 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Houston Astros, allowing three hits in the ninth inning. It certainly wasn't easy, as Holmes gave up a leadoff knock to Mauricio Dubon before Yordan Alvarez reached on an infield single. Kyle Tucker then lined one to right field, but Dubon was just gunned down by Juan Soto while trying to score the tying run on a close play that required a review. Holmes got Alex Bregman to ground out to end the game, and fantasy managers were able to breathe a sigh of relief. The 31-year-old right-hander was an All-Star in 2023 during his first year as a full-time closer in the Bronx, and he's set to rack up plenty of save opportunities on the contending Pinstripes once again. Without much competition for ninth-inning work at the moment, Holmes is a good bet to post north of 20 saves in 2024.
