Dareke Young Leads Seahawks Receivers In Preseason Opener

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Dareke Young caught three of his four targets for a team-high 44 receiving yards in Saturday's 16-3 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. The 2022 draftee's catch and target totals also tied for most on the team. He was also involved in Seattle's longest play of the game. Tucked in close to the Seahawks' line, Young was marked only by a linebacker who he easily outran while crossing over the middle. Once open, Sam Howell fired a dart to Young for a gain of 26 yards. Young showed good hands in the game but he is not a viable fantasy option.

George Holani Vultures Touchdown In Preseason Win

Seattle Seahawks running back George Holani found the end zone in Saturday's 16-3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Holani entered the game after three straight Kenny McIntosh touches gave Seattle first down on the Chargers' 11-yard line. After taking the handoff he deftly bounced outside when his lanes up the middle were jammed, found the edge, and ran it in. The undrafted rookie out of Boise State finished the game with six carries for 24 yards and two receptions for another six yards through the air. Fellow rookie Kobe Lewis led Seattle's backfield with 10 carries. Both running backs are competing with McIntosh to see who will sit directly behind Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet on the depth chart. Their next opportunity for game action will come against the Tennessee Titans on August 17.

Brady Russell Catches Touchdown Pass

Seattle Seahawks tight end Brady Russell was on the receiving end of a 13-yard touchdown pass in Saturday's 16-3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The 25-year-old caught a pass just past the line of scrimmage then eluded three would-be tacklers before diving into the end zone. Russell had a total of three receptions on three targets for 25 receiving yards along with the score. The second-year player was signed off the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad last season and was used mainly as a special teams player, logging only 16 offensive snaps all season. Russell is listed as the fourth tight end on the Seahawks' depth chart and does not pose a threat to Noah Fant's (foot) standing at the top.

Sam Howell Throws TD In Preseason Opener

Quarterback Sam Howell enjoyed a win in his debut with the Seahawks on Saturday. Howell went 16-for-27 for 130 yards and a touchdown as a passer in Seattle's 16-3 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. He also gained 17 yards on four rushes. The Chargers' aggressive pass rush kept pressure on Howell throughout the game resulting in several throwaways and broken plays. Howell's first score in a Seahawk uniform was a 13-yard touchdown pass to tight end Brady Russell early in the second quarter. The former Washington Commander came to Seattle via trade in the offseason to back up veteran Geno Smith, who was held out of the preseason game as a precaution. Howell will next be in action when Seattle takes on the Tennessee Titans on August 17.

Noah Fant Expected To Return To Practice Next Week

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald announced that he believes tight end Noah Fant (foot) will practice next week. He missed a bit of time over the last few days due to a foot injury incurred during Wednesday's practice, but it seems he'll be all good to return following the weekend. This is a good sign for the sixth-year veteran, as any time missed during the crucial install of Ryan Grubb's offense could cost him. Targets will be scarce for Fant, as he has DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba to contend with for quarterback Geno Smith's targets. During Grubb's 2023 reign as coordinator for the Washington Huskies' offense, tight end Jack Westover finished the season with the fourth-most receptions and yards in Washington's offense. It seems fitting to project a similar situation here. Fant is the TE24 in NFFC ADP (207 overall) and is only a target in two-tight end and best-ball formats.
