The Miami Dolphins signed quarterback Tyler Huntley off of the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad on Monday, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. The former Utah signal-caller has appeared in 20 games for the Ravens through his first four NFL seasons and has compiled 1,957 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns, seven interceptions, 509 rushing yards, and three rushing scores. Huntley was named a Pro Bowler in 2022. This move comes after Tua Tagovailoa (head) suffered another scary concussion during the Thursday Night Football loss to the Buffalo Bills. Although Skylar Thompson is expected to be the starter in Miami, he could be benched in favor of Huntley at some point if the offense struggles. Neither likely presents much upside in single-QB leagues, but both are now on the fantasy radar in superflex and two-QB formats. It's unclear how long Tagovailoa could be out, but he is reportedly not considering retirement.
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said that quarterback Tyler Huntley will be the team's "emergency third quarterback" to open the regular season in a Week 1 matchup this Thursday night against the defending Super Bowl-champion Kansas City Chiefs. Huntley was released by the Cleveland Browns last week and quickly rejoined Baltimore to give them extra QB depth for the 2024 campaign behind starter Lamar Jackson and veteran Josh Johnson. The 26-year-old has spent all four of his NFL seasons in Baltimore, including a Pro Bowl showing in 2022, when he went 75-for-112 for 658 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in six games (four starts). Once Huntley gets back into the flow of Baltimore's offense, there's a good chance he'll take over the No. 2 job from Johnson sooner than later.
The Baltimore Ravens have signed free-agent quarterback Tyler Huntley on Friday. This news comes a day after Huntley was let go by the Cleveland Browns. Huntley spent the first four years of his career in Baltimore before joining the Browns this offseason. The 26-year-old has proven himself to be a reliable backup to Lamar Jackson over the last few seasons. He has thrown for nearly 2,000 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in 20 games (nine starts) with the Ravens since 2020. There won't be much fantasy value here, but the Ravens will get a familiar face that knows the system well in case of an emergency.
The Cleveland Browns are releasing quarterback Tyler Huntley on Thursday, according to NFL insider Dianna Russini. Cleveland's initial 53-man roster included quarterbacks Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Huntley, and the team reportedly was open to trading one of the backups. However, that did not happen, so Huntley is being cut loose. Huntley spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens after going undrafted out of Utah in 2020. Overall, the 26-year-old has thrown for 1,957 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 20 game appearances. He also has 509 rushing yards and three rushing scores to his name. Huntley has proven to be a somewhat serviceable backup, so he should land on a new team before the start of the 2024 regular season.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Tyler Huntley was productive in his team's preseason finale on Saturday. Huntley completed 17 of his 22 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns while adding two carries for 14 yards in a 37-33 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The veteran signal-caller played the entire second half of the game, tossing two touchdowns to Michael Woods II and a third to James Proche. Huntley has been battling with Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the No.3 QB job throughout camp. The Browns have reportedly been floating Thompson-Robinson's name in potential trades, a sign that they feel comfortable with what they have seen from Huntley in the preseason.
