The New York Jets won't play their starters in the preseason finale this weekend against the New York Giants, according to head coach Robert Saleh. It means that we won't see quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) at all until Week 1 of the regular season against the San Francisco 49ers as he attempts to return from a torn Achilles that kept him off the field for all of 2023. In addition, running back Breece Hall will be held out this weekend. Adrian Martinez and Andrew Peasley will work under center for the Jets against the G-Men. The 40-year-old Rodgers probably won't be in former MVP form in 2024 coming off a devastating injury, but he could bounce back and be a serviceable QB2 for fantasy managers if he stays healthy. He'll get a good Week 1 test against one of the best defenses in the league, and we wouldn't recommend using him in fantasy lineups in that one.

It's pretty impressive for a 40-year-old signal-caller that missed all of his first season in New York due to an Achilles tear. However, the two-time MVP had returned to practice at the end of last year and hasn't had any setbacks this offseason. It will be interesting to see how Rodgers rebounds from a lost season at his age, but fantasy managers certainly shouldn't be expecting too much, especially in a tough Week 1 matchup against the 49ers' elite defense. Remember, Rodgers was coming off one of the worst seasons of his career in his final season in Green Bay in 2022.

New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams (knee) is eager to return to team drills this week. After passing his physical and rejoining practice on August 7, Williams has been limited to individual drills while he recovers from a torn ACL. The 29-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, missing 19 games, including playoffs. Returning to team drills would give Williams two weeks to build chemistry with quarterback Aaron Rodgers before the Jets' season opener against the San Francisco 49ers on September 9. These reps are crucial for Williams, who joined the Jets this offseason with uncertainty about his readiness for Week 1. If he can stay healthy and develop a connection with Rodgers, Williams could become a valuable, though unpredictable, flex option in the Jets' passing game alongside top receiver Garrett Wilson.

Williams didn't take too long to come off the Physically Unable to Perform list in camp this summer, but he has yet to mix in with the rest of the team on the practice field as he recovers from a torn left ACL that he suffered in Week 3 of 2023 with the Los Angeles Chargers. With time running out before the start of the 2024 regular season, though, it's possible that Williams isn't given a full workload if he's active for the Week 1 opener in early September. Because of his recovery from ACL and the fact he might not be ready to go early on, Williams' price will be reduced on draft day in fantasy. But when healthy, he's fully expected to be the No. 2 wideout behind Garrett Wilson and could be a nice value pick for fantasy managers as a big-play threat.

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh had more good things to say about rookie running back Braelon Allen after Saturday's preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. "We picked him for a lot of reasons, because he's actually really good out of the backfield and route-running, he's really good in protection, too. We think he's an all-around good back and he's a very powerful runner, too, and he's displaying that, down in and down out," Saleh said. The 20-year-old saw eight carries on Saturday and gained 27 yards while also catching two of his four targets for 12 yards. With just one preseason game remaining, it seems pretty clear that Allen is the team's preferred RB2 behind workhorse Breece Hall heading into his first year in the NFL. He's probably going to go undrafted in standard 12-team fantasy leagues, but in deeper formats, Allen is worth taking as a handcuff to Hall.
