Taysom Hill Could Play Five Positions In 2024

New Orleans Saints versatile playmaker Taysom Hill's role could look "slightly different" this season, according to Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. However, the team still expects to take advantage of his versatility. "Hill could play up to five positions fullback, running back, quarterback, tight end, and wide receiver," the two insiders wrote. "That doesn't mean he will play all five, but the Saints have those options available." Hill was an intriguing threat on offense once again last year, catching 33 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns, rushing for 401 yards and four touchdowns, and passing for 83 yards and a touchdown. His production often fluctuated on a week-to-week basis, but managers benefitted from his big-play ability. He remains an appealing fantasy option given his positional eligibility at tight end.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling's Role Beginning To Grow

Things were not going to plan early in training camp for Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who was signed late during spring workouts in mid-May, but he's responded well over the last two weeks and has seen his time with quarterback Josh Allen during team drills steadily grow. It has come as Buffalo's receiver battle has thinned out a bit. Outside of Tyrell Shavers, Chase Claypool (toe) hasn't practiced in over a week, and with each passing day of non-participation, he likely sees his chances of making the team slightly decrease. Justin Shorter has also been hurt, and KJ Hamler mostly works with the second unit. Given the guaranteed money given to MVS, his odds of making the team seem quite good as of now. However, he still has Khalil Shakir, rookie Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins ahead of him on the depth chart.

Mason Tipton Leaves Practice Early With Hamstring Injury

New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Mason Tipton (hamstring) left Wednesday's practice early with a hamstring injury. The severity of the injury is unknown, but this certainly puts his chances of playing in the Saints preseason opener in jeopardy. Tipton has been a standout at camp thus far and is making his case for a roster spot. The Yale product is smaller in stature (5-foot-9) and never eclipsed 1,000 yards in a season during his tenure as a Bulldog. However, he did run a 4.33 40-yard dash, and New Orleans does not boast impressive depth at wide receiver. In fact, behind Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed (hamstring), this WR room is ripe for the taking. Tipton is nothing more than a late-round dart throw (NFFC ADP 331) or deep-league stash, but someone to monitor, considering the hype.

Rashid Shaheed Misses Another Practice On Wednesday

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed (hamstring) missed another training camp practice on Wednesday. It's the fourth straight day that Shaheed has been sidelined at camp after he experienced tightness in his hamstring over the weekend. It doesn't sound like Shaheed's injury is a long-term issue, so barring a setback, he should be healthy in time for the Week 1 regular-season opener against the Carolina Panthers. After catching 46 of his 75 targets for 719 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games (eight starts) in 2023 in his second NFL season, the 25-year-old pass-catcher figures to have an even bigger role in the Saints' offense in 2024. He should be the club's No. 2 wideout behind Chris Olave, but he's going to need more target volume if he's going to be anything more than a boom/bust deep threat for quarterback Derek Carr.

Jermaine Jackson Moved To IR

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Jermaine Jackson (undisclosed) was waived and reverted to the IR on Sunday. The rookie receiver and return specialist suffered an undisclosed injury and will spend some time on the IR while the team tries out some more receivers in the meantime. They've been thin at the position through the early stages of training camp which prompted them to bring in Samson Nacua and Marquez Callaway. Jackson has a chance to come back and make the team, but it seems to be an uphill battle unless the injury issues continue with the receiving corps.
