Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien had himself a day in Friday's 10-2 blowout win over the division-rival Houston Astros, getting a hit in all three of his at-bats and bashing a three-run home run during the sixth inning. Semien smacked one 395 feet to deep left center to make the score 10-0 and get the rout fully underway. It was the first homer of the campaign for the 33-year-old fantasy stalwart, who is now slashing .333/.471/.481 with eight RBI and six runs scored across 27 ABs thus far in 2024. Hitting atop one of the most dynamic offenses in baseball, Semien has led MLB in plate appearances in three of the past four years and should serve as head-to-head gem in all fantasy formats. Dating back to 2023, Semien is batting .393 with four bombs, nine RBI, and 14 runs scored in his last 14 games against the Astros and gets Houston three more times this series.
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien collected two hits, both singles, and an RBI in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Rays. It was Semien's third multi-hit performance in six games, however, he went hitless in the other three games. The 33-year-old is now 6-for-24 (.250) on the young season, with five RBI, three runs scored, and a 5:3 BB:K. The 2x All-Star is still searching for his first home run of the season, but he does have one extra-base hit (a double) so far. It's still very early, but for what it's worth, Semien has an xBA of .318. Look for him to have fewer hitless performances in the future, and surely that first long ball is not far behind.
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien made his Cactus League debut in Friday's 5-4 win over the Royals, going 0-for-1 with a walk. He followed that up with a 1-for-2 outing that included a hit by pitch on Sunday in a 0-0 tie with the Giants, bringing his spring OBP to .600. Although he should be fine, he was pinch run for at first base after the HBP. Semien is coming off a season in which he played all 162 games, had a 25-game hit streak, earned his second All-Star nomination, and earned his second Silver Slugger award on his way to a third-place finish for AL MVP. The righty even finished off the Rangers' postseason run with a 7-game hit streak. Going off the board at around the 28th overall pick, RotoBaller sees a bit more upside with a ranking of 24th overall, and he should finish once again as one of the top second base options in 2024.
