The Arizona Diamondbacks plan is to get ace right-hander Zac Gallen pitching on every fifth day until the All-Star break in mid-July, moving his next start up a game to Thursday on the Fourth of July to face the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Gallen returned from the 15-day injured list due to a hamstring injury on Saturday and tossed six scoreless innings in a win over the Oakland Athletics. "(Gallen) was really pounding the table to get as many starts as he possibly could prior to the break," manager Torey Lovullo said. "So we're going to full throttle him. We're going to go every fifth day with Zac, so you can plan that out." This plan will give Gallen three starts before the All-Star break instead of just two, which is good news for fantasy managers, but he'll also be facing the Dodgers instead of the San Diego Padres this week in his second start off the IL.
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen tossed six shutout innings in his first start in over a month. Gallen has been on the 15-day injured list since May 31 with a right hamstring strain. He allowed just one hit to outfielder Brent Rooker in the opening frame and a free pass to first baseman Tyler Soderstrom in the second inning. He struck out seven batters. This is a great sign, as the 28-year-old posted one of his best outings of the season after missing a month of play. The North Carolina product carries a 2.83 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and a 16:67 BB:K ratio into his next outing, which is tentatively scheduled for July 5 against the San Diego Padres.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have reinstated their ace Zac Gallen (hamstring) from the injured list on Saturday afternoon. Gallen will get the Oakland Athletics this afternoon in Arizona. Gallen missed nearly a month with the injury. He is 5-4 with a 3.12 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 60 strikeouts in 57 innings this year. Gallen might have a lower pitch count today, as he threw a 67-pitch simulation game on Monday before throwing an extended bullpen session on Thursday. The Diamondbacks sent lefty Brandon Hughes to Triple-A in a related move.
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen (hamstring) is expected to be reinstated from the injured list and start Saturday's game against the visiting Oakland Athletics. Barring any setbacks, Gallen will return for the D-backs in Saturday's contest against Oakland, considering he's listed as Arizona's probable starter. The 28-year-old star right-hander threw 67 pitches in a simulated game on Monday and followed that up with a bullpen session on Thursday. Although Gallen could be on a pitch count in his first start back from a strained right hamstring and pose a bit of added DFS risk on Saturday's slate, he has a steady 3.12 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 60:15 K:BB over 57 2/3 frames (11 starts) and should be activated and deployed in all season-long fantasy leagues in a mouthwatering matchup.
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen (hamstring) could come off the injured list to start Saturday's game against the Oakland Athletics if all goes well with his bullpen session on Thursday. Gallen has already thrown a few simulated games, and Thursday's bullpen will be his second. So if the 28-year-old gets through Thursday without any issues, he'll be an option to return to Arizona's starting rotation this weekend in an excellent matchup that fantasy managers won't be able to pass on despite the fact that Gallen hasn't thrown in a game since May 30, when he was removed after just pitches due to his hamstring injury. Without going on a minor-league rehab assignment to build his pitch count up, though, Gallen's fantasy upside in his first start back in the big leagues will be limited.
