Mets Officially Place Starling Marte On Injured List

The New York Mets officially placed outfielder Starling Marte (knee) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 23) on Tuesday with a right-knee bone bruise and selected the contract of outfielder Ben Gamel from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move. This move was coming after he was advised to rest for 15 days following an MRI exam on Monday. Marte has been dealing with knee issues for several weeks and will now take a seat. There's no timeline for his return, but at this point, it's probably safe to assume that we won't see the 35-year-old veteran until after the All-Star break in mid-July. Gamel could see some action in the outfield against right-handed pitchers, but DJ Stewart and Tyrone Taylor are expected to be the biggest beneficiaries in terms of playing time for the Mets. Fantasy managers will want to keep Marte stashed in an IL spot while he heals.UPDATE: Marte won't take part in any baseball activities for at least two weeks and is going to be sidelined for a minimum of four weeks, according to manager Carlos Mendoza.

Starling Marte Told To Rest For 15 Days

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (knee) is dealing with a bone inflammation in his right knee and has been told to rest for 15 days. The Mets haven't officially placed Marte on the injured list, but that's likely where this is headed. The 35-year-old veteran outfielder went for an MRI exam on Monday after experiencing soreness in his right knee this weekend. With Marte set to take a few weeks off to rest his knee, fantasy managers probably won't get him back before the All-Star break in mid-July. It's a tough break for fantasy managers and the Mets, as Marte has been productive this year, slashing .278/.328/.416 with seven home runs, 30 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 38 runs scored in his 245 at-bats. Keep him stashed in all fantasy formats. DJ Stewart and Tyrone Taylor will battle for extra playing time in the Mets' outfield with Marte likely heading to the IL.

Starling Marte Not In Sunday's Lineup

New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (knee) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Marte left Saturday's game with right knee soreness, but it does not look like he will need to hit the injured list at this time. The Mets have the day off on Monday which will let Marte get a bit of extra rest. The veteran outfielder is slashing .278/.328/.416 with seven home runs, 30 RBI, 38 runs and 12 stolen bases this season. DJ Stewart is starting in right field in Marte's absence and will bat sixth against Cubs right-hander Javier Assad. Stewart is 0-for-2 in his career against the 26-year-old.
