Ross Stripling To Face Live Hitters On Wednesday

Oakland Athletics right-hander Ross Stripling (elbow), who landed on the injured list on May 25 with a right-elbow flexor strain, threw a bullpen session at Chase Field on Saturday that simulated two innings and included all of his pitches. Stripling's next step will be facing hitters in a live batting practice session on Wednesday, July 3. The 34-year-old veteran will eventually need to make at least a couple minor-league rehab starts before being activated from the injured list, so it's likely that we won't see him again in Oakland's starting rotation until after the All-Star break in mid-July. It's hard to get behind Stripling in even deep-mixed fantasy leagues after he went 1-9 with a 5.82 ERA and 1.59 WHIP with a 35:12 K:BB in 55 2/3 innings over his first 11 starts this year in his first year with the A's. He's currently sporting a career-worst 13.9% strikeout rate.

Ross Stripling To Throw His First Bullpen Next Week

Oakland Athletics right-hander Ross Stripling (elbow) will graduate from throwing on flat ground with his first bullpen session on Tuesday, June 25. Stripling will likely throw at least a few bullpen sessions before the team comes up with a plan for a minor-league rehab assignment. The 34-year-old veteran has built up his arm enough at this point that he's been cleared to throw off a mound. He's not going to be back in Oakland's rotation until at least July, and it remains to be seen if it will come before or after the All-Star break in mid-July. The A's probably aren't going to rush him back, though, considering he went 1-9 with a 5.82 ERA and 1.59 WHIP with just 35 strikeouts in 55 2/3 frames over his first 11 starts with the team in 2024. An aging pitcher with a career-low 13.9% strikeout rate on one of the worst teams in baseball should only be rostered in AL-only leagues when he's healthy.

Ross Stripling Shut Down For 7-10 Days

Oakland Athletics right-hander Ross Stripling (elbow) landed on the injured list on May 25 with a right-elbow flexor strain one day after his start against the Houston Astros. Manager Mark Kotsay said on Tuesday that Stripling will not throw for seven to 10 days and the team will re-evaluate him after that period. It's already been a tough first season for Stripling and the A's, as the veteran pitcher was 1-9 with a 5.82 ERA (3.98 FIP) and 1.59 WHIP with 12 walks and 35 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings over his 11 starts before landing on the injured list. Stripling currently leads the league with his nine losses and also leads the league with 77 hits allowed. Even if Stripling gets past his elbow issue and returns to Oakland's starting rotation, fantasy managers in mixed leagues should look elsewhere.
