Amed Rosario On The Bench Saturday

Tampa Bay Rays utility player Amed Rosario is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the visiting Washington Nationals and right-hander Jake Irvin. The 28-year-old has been rather productive at the plate in his first season with the Rays, hitting .296 with a .727 OPS in 62 games. At the same time, he has hit just two homers on the season -- and none since April 17 -- while walking in just 3.1% of his trips to the plate. His 110 wRC+ tells us that he has been valuable to the Rays but fantasy managers have been unable to extract much value from the veteran's counting stats which include 18 runs, 24 RBI, and seven steals on the season. Rosario is a decent middle infield fantasy player for leagues that count batting average but he has largely been fantasy irrelevant this season.

Amed Rosario Struggles To Connect On Sunday

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Amed Rosario struggled in Sunday's 4-2 loss against the Chicago White Sox. Rosario went 1-for-4 with one strikeout and a hit-by-pitch to end a tough weekend series. The Rays shortstop went 2-for-12 (.167) with one RBI, one run, two walks, and three strikeouts in the three games against the White Sox. He has been a solid starter for fantasy managers this season, though, hitting .320 (31-for-97) with five doubles, one triple, 13 RBI, eight runs, two homers, 13 walks, and fourteen strikeouts in 26 starts. He'll kick the week off with a tough matchup versus Milwaukee, but his fantasy upside remains high and desirable for managers.

Amed Rosario To Serve In Utility Role

Tampa Bay Rays president of baseball operations Erik Neander said that the plan is to play infielder Amed Rosario at both middle-infield positions and in the corner-outfield spots in 2024 after signing him to a one-year, $1.5 million deal on Tuesday. Rosario will give the Rays more insurance at the 6 with Wander Franco potentially never playing for the team again given his off-the-field issues, but Jose Caballero will remain the primary option at shortstop. The 28-year-old Rosario has been a lefty killer in his career, so between multiple positions with the Rays in 2024, the Dominican infielder should play rather regularly when the club faces a left-handed pitcher. He'll be most attractive as a low-cost DFS play against southpaws, but with modest power and speed, Rosario's fantasy ceiling is low.
