Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks was working as a gunner on the punt team on Tuesday, and he might need to carve out a role on special teams to ensure he's on the team's active roster in 2024. When asked if Burks will have to contribute on special teams, head coach Brian Callahan said, "Absolutely, he's going to have to contribute. You only get so many hats on game day, and if he's one of those guys on game day, we're going to have to find a place for him." This is far from a great sign for dynasty fantasy managers holding Burks on rosters, and the report will likely drop his 2024 fantasy value even further. If he fails to make an impact on special teams, he could find himself as a healthy scratch during the regular season. On the flip side, the team being willing to put him on special teams indicates he's likely stuck in the WR4 role behind DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, and Tyler Boyd. Even if one of those players gets injured, his fantasy floor would be low, and his ceiling would be limited based on his production through his first 22 NFL games (665 yards).
Despite the Tennessee Titans signing veteran wide receiver Tyler Boyd this week, head coach Brian Callahan and the organization still have hope for third-year wideout Treylon Burks. "We've made very clear to Treylon that the signing of Tyler is not about him. It's about helping our team get better, adding better players to our team, making us a competitive football team," Callahan said. "What he's done and how he's worked has been great, and I'm anticipating him still being able to play a good role for us." While the Boyd signing almost surely pushes Burks to the WR4 role and destroys any 2024 fantasy football value he had, it sounds like the team is not going to trade him this offseason as many have speculated. Burks was a promising prospect coming out of Arkansas, but he's totaled just 665 receiving yards and one touchdown through his first two NFL seasons. He might be worth holding in deep dynasty leagues, but it'd be surprising if he's on the fantasy radar in redraft formats.
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks was recently listed as a potential trade candidate by NFL insider Ari Meirov, and after the team signed Tyler Boyd on Tuesday, it could be more likely. The 2022 first-round pick has hauled in just 49 passes for 665 yards and one touchdown in 22 games over the last two seasons. Former Titans general manager Jon Robinson traded A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for the pick that Burks was selected with, along with a third-round pick. Needless to say, the trade has not aged well. Current general manager Ran Carthon and head coach Brian Callahan were not with the organization when Burks was picked, so a change of scenery could be in order. With DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, and Boyd projected to start in three-wide sets, Burks appears to be the odd man out. If he's dealt, it will likely be in exchange for a late-round pick in the 2025 or 2026 NFL Draft.
