The Kansas City Chiefs are re-signing running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire to a one-year deal, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Edwards-Helaire became a free agent this offseason, and the Chiefs hosted J.K. Dobbins on a visit on Tuesday, but CEH is back with the team for the 2024 season. Since being selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Edwards-Helaire has rushed 441 times for 1,845 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has also hauled in 89 passes for 765 yards and seven receiving scores. Ultimately, the LSU product has been a bust, but he's a fine backup running back to Isiah Pacheco. Like last season, Edwards-Helaire should be viewed as nothing more than a handcuff RB in 2024 fantasy drafts.
After fully practicing on Wednesday, Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) popped up on the team's injury report on Thursday and was downgraded to a limited practice participant due to an illness. While that initially put the 24-year-old's status into question for Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, he put in a full session on Friday and enters the big game with no injury designation. Although Jerick McKinnon (groin) is questionable to play following a week of limited practices, head coach Andy Reid said on Tuesday that the pass-catching back is not expected to play. That leaves Edwards-Helaire as the Chiefs' change-of-pace back behind Isiah Pacheco, a role that's yielded only 27% of K.C.'s offensive snaps over three postseason games. Even though he's cheap in DFS, CEH is unlikely to make much of an impact with such little opportunity and would be totally out of play if McKinnon is surprisingly active.
Kansas City Chiefs running backs Jerick McKinnon (groin) and Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) were both limited in the team's practice on Thursday. McKinnon remains on Injured Reserve, hasn't played since Week 15 and is unlikely to be activated in order to play in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Meanwhile, Edwards-Helaire pops up on the injury report for the first time while being under the weather, but the 24-year-old should be fine in time for Sunday's big game. Isiah Pacheco (ankle, toe) has been practicing in full this week and will play this weekend, which will leave little for CEH in KC's backfield in order to make some noise for fantasy managers in DFS. In the team's three playoff games this year, Edwards-Helaire has just 10 carries for 53 yards and no touchdowns for the Chiefs.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is a name to watch ahead of Sunday's AFC title game against the Baltimore Ravens. Featured back Isiah Pacheco (ankle/toe) did not participate in two practices before upgrading to a limited session on Friday, jeopardizing his game status. In two games as K.C.'s lead back when Pacheco missed Weeks 14 and 15, Edwards-Helaire totaled 24 carries for 76 yards and caught six of his eight passes for 93 yards and a touchdown. But those two dates came with scat back Jerick McKinnon (groin) in the Chiefs' lineup, so CEH would be in line for a three-down role if Pacheco is out. Baltimore tied for the fourth-most opponent yards per carry (4.5) and the seventh-most catches to opposing RBs (86) in the regular season but also gave up an NFL-low five rushing scores to the position. Priced at $4,600 on DraftKings, CEH would likely be the chalkiest DFS play on Sunday's slate if Pacheco cannot give it a go.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) will return from a one-game absence in Week 18 versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Edwards-Helaire missed Week 17's win over the Cincinnati Bengals with an illness, clearing the way for Isiah Pacheco (quadriceps/shoulder) to take on a heavy 92.3% snap share. But with Pacheco questionable to play on Sunday, Edwards-Helaire could be thrust back into a featured role if K.C.'s lead back cannot give it a go. Jerick McKinnon (groin) is on injured reserve, leaving La'Mical Perine as the next man up behind Edwards-Helaire on the Chiefs' depth chart. In two games without Pacheco this season, CEH rounded up 169 total yards and one touchdown on 30 touches. The 24-year-old former first-rounder is volatile in a game of no consequence for the Chiefs but should be deemed RB2/3 playable, considering Pacheco may only receive a slight workload even if he suits up.
