Tackling a team PGA event in NOLA this week, the DFS streets are rather quiet.
While many big golf fans rant and rave about needing more team events on the PGA Tour schedule, the DFS crowd in general likes to skip or play light on these weeks.
I don’t blame them, and honestly I would suggest we play lighter than usual this week. Why is that? When you have easy scoring conditions, the tee-to-green edge that elite players have gets minimized. The easier the course plays, the harder it is to separate.
When you have two of the rounds played with the best ball format, that is amplified even more. The elite golfers are elite because they can manage the course and minimize costly mistakes. When you play a team event with best ball format, golfers are able to get away with more of those mistakes. The cream can still rise to the top, it’s just a lot harder to do so on a consistent basis when the scoring environment is at such an extreme.
